Baby Sitting Perrin

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Amanda recently went to Belgium for a vacation and she left Perrin in our loving care. At first the plan was to keep him at the Broken House so that he could live life to the fullest and not be bothered with such trivial matters such as Television and Play Station. However, after the first weekend we knew that it really wasn’t going to work. Having to get him ready there was simply too much for us to handle, so after that we kept him at his mother’s house.  However, that certainly didn’t stop us from allowing him to live the simple life…

Over the weekend we cut down a few trees around where the garden will be so we could get some extra wood for next year, and to allow more sun on the veggies that’ll soon be planted.

He loved helping us move and stack the wood. Sadly he di get a bit of Poison Ivy, but is better now.

To reward him for his hard work we treated him to Shoney’s Buffet, where he generally eats next to nothing, however this time he inquired about the bacon I was eating and wanted to try some…

he really likes well cooked bacon, though does call it MACON instead.

The following week I had to work as a farm hand for some friends, Cyndi would pick Perrin up then head over to the farm I was working on, and he got the chance to meet not only a few cows, but one of the largest bulls I’ve seen in my entire life….

I would have loved to have gotten a video of the bull licking the little guys face, but Ill setle for his image.

With all that running around the car needed some gas, and Perrin wanted to help me pump it. I let him, and as you can see he is THRILLED!

Luckily he even though he LOVED it, he does not want to be a gas station attendant when he grows up.

We had loads of other fun as well, but sadly no images to match them. His mother made it back safely, Cyndi and I  are once again enjoying out own bed, and he is back to his normal ‘I don’t wanna try it’ self.

The cats are happy

Monday, December 7th, 2009

I don’t make many entries here on the Broken House Blog, but thought that with the recent devastating news that something HAPPY should be posted, so here I am talking about the cats…

Flat Cat has been around longer then I have it seems, he’s old and pushing decrepit…though he still has spunk, and is still the “God Father” of the household cats. However, as he is getting older and will likely not be with us forever, we thought that he deserved to have a legacy.

Now Azrael is a new cat to Tennessee, but likely older then Flat Cat himself. She was MY cat and I brought her down from Michigan with me four years ago when I moved down to be with Cyndi. At the time she was a skinny little black cat with allergies (causing her to go partially bald). She remained that way while Cyndi and I lived at the trailer, and stayed that way while we built that house on the hill. When we got to the Broken House things changed… why? Because we put her outside with the other cats. She wanted to go out! Every time we opened the door out she ran… at first we fought with her as she does not have font claws, but it grew tiresome, so eventually we just let her stay out.

A sleep over

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

When I tell people how I live I often get strange looks and odd comments. People want to know how we keep things cold, what we do for entertainment, how we bathe, etc. The answers are simple and I tell them about the spring, my many books, and about wash cloths and buckets. When I tell them about the grandkids they gawk some more…

The kids love it here! Most of the week I will keep Perrin at the house with me, and he simply has a great time. We’ll play rather then watch TV, I’ll read him a book rather then play video games, and we’ll take turns telling each other stories. Well, that is what we do when he is not helping me with my chores or building something…. And on the rare occasions where he spends the night, it’s generally a good long sleep that he gets. A well deserved sleep at that. Running around playing in the yard can ware even a 4 year old out.

I remember back when we lived at the trailer and had a TV and a Playstation. Yeah, we would make it outside to play now and again, but that was generally in between movies and SSX Tricky. When it was time for sleep, the kids would stay up, sometimes for hours. That simply does not happen here at the broken house. At 9:00pm when it starts to get dark its often time for bed, and most of the time by 9:15 the house is filled with snoring.
